Despite a few rainy days, this summer outshone the last, marking the completion of another memorable Mahi Aroha Summer Programme!

Update to our upcoming working bee in the Pureora Forest.

At the end of last year we said goodbye to Clodagh who is joining DOC as a Biodiversity Ranger.

We are on the hunt for two dedicated and passionate staff members one for Project Tongariro and one for Kids Greening Taupō!

Come and volunteer with us! We have some fantastic events coming up again this summer and we need volunteer course marshalls and volunteer BBQ teams to feed the troops!

The 70th commemoration of the Tangiwai Disaster has provided opportunities to demonstrate about how communities can live with an active volcano like Ruapehu.

Following our field trip to Pirongia we are planning a field trip to Pureora.   We were given a presentation by Diane and Selwyn (from the Pirongia Te Aroaro o Kahu Restoration Society) outlining the amazing work they do with kōkako.  The trip will be on the 9th-11th February 2024 will run from Friday evening to midday Sunday and we will help the Pirongia Restoration Society (responsible for this Northern Pureora forest block) removing bait Our plan will be to buddy up with another person for the bait removal. 

Twenty Project Tongariro members had a wonderful weekend enjoying the Waipa district, staying at Pirongia Lodge on the slopes of Pirongia Mountain. Most members arrived on Friday night for a relaxing meal and evening catch-up.
