Mahi Aroha Summer Programme 2025 Explore, Enjoy, and Protect Nature
CENTRAL PLATEAU VISITORS AND COMMUNITIES ARE INVITED TO EXPLORE, PROTECT, AND ENJOY THEIR LOCAL NATURAL ENVIRONMENTS THIS SUMMER.
Mahi Aroha, brought to you by Project Tongariro and the Department of Conservation, offers a variety of nature-based experiences for the whole family. Bookings are now open for January's exciting lineup of events!
Project Tongariro Chief Executive Officer Kiri Te Wano says Mahi Aroha is all about loving our backyard.
“We live in an incredible space in the Central Plateau; these trips and events are encouraging us all to get out and appreciate it.”
Community groups across the region have joined DOC and Project Tongariro to provide a calendar of nearly 30 events from Taupō to Ohakune, and everywhere in between.
Around Taupō, join us for the ever-popular Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary tours, or take the kids on a family-friendly nature walk at Waipāhīhī Botanical Reserve. Feeling adventurous? The Tauranga Taupō Waterfall track offers stunning views you won’t want to miss! Or, join Sue Graham at Tūrangi Artworks for a relaxing watercolour class inspired by nature.
New adventures this year include the Te Onetapu Rangipo Desert hike and an epic ride on the Great Lake Trail from Waihaha to Waihora.
We’ve also brought back favourites like the Okupata Caves tour, Kiwi Aversion training, and predator trap building workshops to help protect our wildlife.
Spots are limited, so don’t wait - book now and celebrate our stunning local environment with us!
