Kiwibank Local Hero Medalist Shirley Potter
Celebrating Shirley Potter: Kiwibank Local Hero Medal Recipient
We’re thrilled to share some fantastic news—Shirley Potter has been awarded a Kiwibank Local Hero Medal for the Waikato Region!
For those of you who know Shirley, this recognition comes as no surprise. Shirley is a dedicated and passionate leader whose commitment to conservation has made a profound impact on our local environment and community.
One of Shirley’s most remarkable achievements is the restoration of the Oruatua Recreation Reserve. Together with her incredible team of staff and volunteers, she has transformed this once-neglected 14-hectare area into a flourishing forest. Over 43,000 native trees have been planted under her leadership, revitalising the local ecosystem.
Despite her incredible accomplishments, Shirley remains humble. When asked about her achievements, she was quick to credit her team of volunteers and staff, saying, “I couldn’t have done any of this without them—they all deserve a medal too.!”
Congratulations, Shirley, on this well-deserved honour! You’re a true local hero, and we’re so proud to have you as part of our community.
