Enjoy a guided tour around the unique Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary and the Gallagher Insurance Kiwi Burrow, with Save the Kiwi, Greening Taupō, Takahē Recovery, and the Department of Conservation.
The tour will include a trip around the Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary showcasing its unique flora & fauna, learning the differences between a ‘regular’ golf course and the uniqueness of the Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary. You will also learn about the Sanctuary’s predator proof fence and trapping programme, get the chance to admire and learn more about the resident takahē, and participate in a once-in-a-lifetime tour of the Gallagher Insurance Kiwi Burrow.
Dress code standards are compulsory and a full driver's license must also be sighted to those who wish to drive a golf cart. The Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary reserve the right to turn anyone away who does not abide by these rules. Only those who have not had a chance to experience these trips before may attend.
Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary Dress Code: Players and spectators must be dressed in appropriate golf attire, neat and tidy at all times. Men: collared shirts with sleeves, dress pants or shorts are required. Ladies: collared shirts with or without sleeves, collared dresses, skirts, skorts and shorts are appropriate. Not permitted: tee shirts, singlets, denim shorts, denim pants, track pants, work boots, jandals. Golf shoes: metal spikes are not permitted on course.
