Kaimanawa Alpine Adventures – Heli-hike (Day 2) 2024

Experience the Central North Island from a whole new perspective!

On this guided day trip, you will start by taking a scenic helicopter flight into the Kaimanawa Trust land block in the foothills of both the Kaimanawa Forest Park and the Tongariro National Park.

Hiking approx. 11km along Kaimanawa Alpine Adventures Heli biking trail (all downhill), you will then hear from experienced members and local iwi about the ‘big picture’ initiatives and cultural histories of the region.

Also, what the Sika Foundation, Kaimanawa Alpine Adventures and the local iwi are aiming to achieve through various conservation projects.

The Waipakahi Kiwi and Whio recovery program will be a highlight of this trip, observing the predator control efforts in action, stopping along the way to enjoy the mature beech forest and river ecosystems.

Arriving back at Kaimanawa Alpine Adventures base area you can then enjoy lunch and a swim in the Waipakahi river before heading home.

Participants are asked to bring the following:

  • Warm clothing

  • Waterproof and windproof clothing

  • Sturdy tramping boots

  • Sunglasses/sunscreen/hat

  • Gloves and warm hat

  • Lunch, snacks and drink

  • Personal first aid kit

  • Personal medication

  • Swimwear

Trip may be cancelled due to adverse weather or if conditions are not suitable for flying. Admin/booking fee non refundable in the event of cancellation.

The Trip Leader reserves the right to refuse anyone who is insufficiently equipped.

If you cancel your trip before 48 hours of the trip date, a refund will be provided (excluding the $6 booking fee). For cancellations within 48 hours of the trip, no refunds are applicable.
