Would you like to experience what it’s like to be a Sika Foundation member for a day?
On this guided day trip, you will start by taking a scenic helicopter flight to the Kaipo River Swing Bridge, in the Kaimanawa Forest Park!
Hiking approx. 7km along the Kaipo River terraces to the Oamaru Hut, you will then hear from experienced members about the ‘big picture’ initiatives, and what the Sika Foundation are aiming to achieve through various hunter-led conservation projects.
The Whio Trapping Program will be a highlight of this trip, observing the Foundation’s predator control efforts in action, stopping along the way to enjoy the mature beech forest and river ecosystems.
Arriving at the Oamaru Hut, you can then enjoy a relaxing afternoon cuppa (and swim) before a short 2km climb up the river terraces to your shuttle, and back through the private Poronui Station.
