We are thrilled to announce our upcoming field trip to Geo40’s Silica Recovery Plant at Ohaaki Power Station on Sunday, 18th August 2024.

Geo40’s silica recovery plant is the only one of its kind in the world, processing 6,800 tonnes of geothermal brine per day to produce around 4,000 tonnes of colloidal silica per year. This is a unique opportunity as the site is not normally open to the public, and tour numbers are strictly limited to 15 people.

Car Share: Please drive yourself to the location and car share where possible.
Dress Code: All visitors must wear covered shoes and ankle-to-cuff clothing (long trousers and shirts). Those who have reflective vests and hard hats are requested to bring them.
Visitor Limit: Visitor numbers are strictly limited to 15, as per Contact Energy's on-site regulations.
Our trip will be led by Project Tongariro’s Chairman and Co-founder of Geo40, Mike O’Sullivan.
