The Sika Foundation advocates for the protection of our nationally endangered Blue Duck, the Whio, through the Whio Protection Program - an expansive predator trapping network in the Kaimanawa Forest Park.
Whio avoidance training is a tool that can complement this kaupapa, by helping to reduce the threat dogs pose to our precious native birds. As sika hunters, we can add increased protection for whio, by ensuring that our highly valuable indicating dogs are avian avoidance trained. We also encourage other working or recreational dog owners to get on board and do the same. The Kiwi Avoidance Training programme was established in 1996 and is a joint venture between Save the Kiwi and the Department of Conservation.
Sika Foundation members will receive a $15.00 discount per dog, and with the help of endorsed kiwi avoidance trainer, Willy Marsh, these events are expected to book out fast! Walk-ins will be considered on the day.
The Kiwi Avoidance Training programme is a partnership between Save the Kiwi and the Department of Conservation, established in 1996. For more information about Kiwi Avoidance visit www.kiwiavoidancetraining.nz

Check, Clean, Dry to stop the spread
Getting outdoors is a fantastic way to explore New Zealand, but it's important to clean your boots and gear to prevent the spread of invasive weed species and pests like didymo that threaten our rivers, lakes, and native ecosystems. Always check your gear for seeds, cleaning and drying thoroughly after every use to help protect NZ’s great outdoors.
