The Project Tongariro forest restoration project has been running at Lake Rotopounamu for over 20 years and the improvement to birdlife is remarkable!
Join Project Tongariro volunteers for a walk around the lake checking rodent traps, wētā hotels and bird spotting. Bring your own lunch for a stop at ‘long beach’ and hear about how this unique place is being protected and future plans to reintroduce birds that once lived in this special jewel of Tongariro National Park.

These settings are to keep volunteers, staff, and attendees safe, as well as for the safety of the wider communities we operate in.
Avian Aversion Training attendees do not have to have a vaccination passport but must be wearing a mask.
All trip leaders are double vaccinated.
