Paengaroa Plant Picnic 2024

Come join local botanic enthusiasts Lois and Karen for a jaunt in discovery, investigation and discussion into native plants at Paengaroa Scenic Reserve.

Formerly an inland island sanctuary, Paengaroa Reserve is one of the Ruapehu Region's hidden gems, with one of the largest concentration of divaricating plants anywhere in Aotearoa.

Located in the quiet Mataroa hamlet, between Taihape and Waiouru, Paengaroa Scenic reserve warrants a visit for those who've never been before.

Cost: Free

Participants are asked to bring: 

  • Packed Lunch

  • Warm weather or cool weather gear

  • Sun block/hat

  • Water.

  • Medication

  • Comfortable shoes/boots.

  • A burning interest in discovering NZ plants.


Please note: the trip leader reserves the right to refuse anyone who is insufficiently equipped.
