Sika Foundation - Whio & Kiwi Aversion Training - Taupō 2024

The Sika Foundation is proud to facilitate the upcoming Avian Aversion Training (whio and kiwi) events this January, in Taupō and Tūrangi! Discounted training and priority bookings apply if you sign up as a Sika Foundation member.

Whio and Kiwi aversion training is a tool which helps to reduce the threat dogs can pose to our precious native birds. With our Whio Recovery Project expanding and thriving in the Kaimanawa Forest Park, we have particular interest in this kaupapa.

As hunters, we share the landscapes whio and kiwi are in and play a key role in protecting these native species and their habitats. We are encouraging hunters and other park users to get on board with this by subsidizing the cost of aversion training for our members from $36.00 to just $15.00 per dog!

Minimum Age: 4-month-old pups.
Max Participants: 40
Meeting Place: Whakaipo Bay - Start of the K2K bike track
Cost: $36

Participants are asked to bring:

  • Microchip/tattoo information

  • Previous Avoidance Training Certificate

  • Proof of your Sika Foundation Membership details (if applicable).

  • Cash payment on the day, if no booking has been made prior.

NOTE - there is 15 minutes per dog allocated for training.

Please note: the trip leader reserves the right to refuse anyone who is insufficiently equipped.

Our Avoidance Trainer will decide the day before on weather conditions. Participants will be contacted 24 hours in advance if the event is to be cancelled. Admin and booking fee is non-refundable.

If you cancel your trip before 48 hours of the trip date, a refund will be provided (excluding the $6 booking fee). For cancellations within 48 hours of the trip, no refunds are applicable.
